National Cadet Corps

4(TN) Engr. Coy. NCC

Company Commander :

4(TN) Engineers Company NCC, a technical unit, is functioning in the college with a sanctioned strength of 150 boy cadets, 50 girl cadets and one officer. In addition to basic infantry and weapon training, cadets are being given training in small arms firing water supply, bridging, minebreaching, explosives, obstacles removal etc, pertaining to the Corps of Engineers in the India Army. Cadets are also sent for state-level Annual Training camps and All India level Army Attachment camps. Apart from the regular training camps adventure-training like cyclying, trecking in hill areas is organised every year.

The National Service Scheme started funtioning in the college from 1970-71 under the National Service Scheme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The sanctioned strength at present is three hundred. NSS has adopted the following villages: Koothiarkundu, Nilaiyur near Thiruppankundram and Thanakkankulam near Thirunagar.

NSS is concentrating its activities on developing these adopted villages. Some of the other activities of the are Blood Donation Camps, Kitchen-gardening, beautification of the college campus, organisation of science clubs in neighbouring high schools, collection of donation for public causes etc.

To develop and foster the talents of the students, hobby clubs for painting, music, public speaking etc. have been started. The activities are supervised by three staff members designated as NSS officers and assisted by and Advisory Commitee consisting of student representatives and staff

Inter Collegiate activites of NSS are directed by the Director of Youth Welfare, Madurai Kamaraj University. The pricipal is a member of the Advisory Commitee of the NSS at the University level.

Rotaract Club

Sponsored by the Rotary Club, Madurai, this club aims at the self-development of students through community projects, cultural programmes and educational seminars.

Music Club

Promotes the interest of students in classical, light and western music, and brings out the talents of the budding musicians. Coaching in various fields is also given. It is a well-equipped club with a good collection of important instruments.

Visual Arts Society

Encourage the interests and knowledge of students in photography and videography. Practical lessons in developing, printing and enlarging are given to members. A well equipped processing room is provided in the Physics Department. Special Lectures are also arranged. An annual state-level competition in photography and other arts is conducted.

Horticultural Society

It is actively engaged in developing the greenery of the campus. Besides maintaining 3 flower gardens, 3 nurseries and 2 cocunut goves and the frontage of the college, it has planted 100 roadside trees and 150 cocunut saplings.

To encourage students to write articles of technical and general interest and to foster their literary talent, a magazine is published by the college every year. Other publications include the College Bulletin.

A campus magazine run by students provides forum for literary and scientific writing. Also, it conducts various competitions to bring out the talents of students.

A student's magazine for sports incorporated with TEC Times, helps the students to acquire more knowledge about sports in the campus and outside.
